After an historic 12 day visit to the Malankara Church, Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka-I Iwas, the Patriarch of Antioch & all the East and the Supreme head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, returned to the Patriarchate in Damascus from the Kochi International Airport. His Beatitude the Catholicos Mor Baselios Thomas-I, all the 26 Metropolitans of Malankara, several priests, deacons, Church office bearers and a large gathering of faithful were present in the airport to bid farewell to the spiritual supreme.

The rally of the Spiritual organizations of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church of India became a historic event on October 26th 2008. The Spiritual organizations consisting of Sunday School students, Teachers, Youth Association members and St. Mary’s Women’s league members consisting of a crowd that totaled around 50,000 people participated in a rally during the recent Apostolic visit of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarch to Kerala.

The Patriarch of  Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church His Holiness Abba Paulos visited His Holiness Mor Ignatius Zakka Iwas I on a short visit during November 20-21st 2008. The group with nine delegates consisting of five Bishops, one Monk, one Priest and two lay officials of the church reached Damascus on November 20th, 2008  and met His Holiness at Mor Aphrem Seminary, Ma'arat Seydnaya.

The Syrian Orthodox Church in India witnessed the life and contribution of a very saintly person who had a very varied approach than his contemporaries in the mission, evangelistic and education vision of the church. His life and contribution is more known as a saint of the Church of the latter part of the Nineteenth century, whereas his mission concept and praxis is less known and projected. My thesis is an attempt to limelight some of the salient features of his works in the church and society at large.

The year-long sacerdotal Golden jubilee celebrations of  Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, the regional head of the Syrian Christian Church of India, came to an end with a grand reception given to the Supreme head of the Church, His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka-I Iwas and His Beatitude the Catholicos at the Marine Drive grounds in Kochi. As many as 100,000 faithful attended the function held to welcome His Holiness the Patriarch on his 4th Apostolic visit to India and to facilitate the Catholicos on his sacerdotal Golden jubilee celebration.
