Verse 7:13-14: Choosing one of two ways and one of two destinations.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

“The narrow gate”: St. John Chrisostom says in our nature three bodily desires are more difficult to win than others. They are 1) love for the food 2) love of the body 3) sleep. Because of this, fasting, virginity, and enthusiastic prayer are necessary . But all this are difficult to observe. That is the narrow gate. When we say the devils door is very wide , it signifies the uncontrolled , emotional life. The gate of the life is Christ. The gate of destruction is the Devil.
