Verse 1-5: About allegations and judgments

Our Lord is against any judgment or criticizing and condemnation of others. It is not only that he is against it, He calls such people hypocrites. It is the lack of love that is the root of unfair judgment. They only see the faults of his brother with a blind eye to their goodness.

“Judge not”

Our Lord refers to being judgmental without having pity. But he has not banned the judgments on fundamental issues (Ref: Matthew 7:15-16). That means, do not judge anyone without knowing the full details and circumstances. You should not be a hard-hearted judge of anyone. You should rectify other’s fault, but it should not be retaliatory, but more like a physician who gives medicine for the cure.

For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; our Lord has not prohibited from judging. It has to be fair and everyone will be judged by the same standards, too. God will judge anyone who judge unfairly. “One who forgives will subject to last judgment”, writes St. John Crisostom.
