New Church in Charlotte
by Shaji Peter
The first malayalee church in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA had a great spiritual start. The first official mass of St.George Syrian
Orthodox Church of Charlotte NC was on Saturday January 28th, 2006. The blessed event took place with His Eminence Yeldho Mar Titus
Thirumeni leading the service with visiting fathers from Atlanta and Augusta Georgia.
We were lucky to have a heavenly choir that took the time to drive to Charlotte from Atlanta as well - not to mention the numerous
people visiting churches around the nation. The first service took place at the St. Marks Coptic Orthodox Church Charlotte. Rev. Fr.
Arsanios and his parish were kind enough to welcome us with open arms.
St. George Syrian Orthodox Church of Charlotte will have a regular Saturday mass schedule due to logistical constraints of finding a
permanent worship place and with our priest having to drive from Georgia for Holy mass. Rev. Fr. Mathews Edathara has been appointed
as Vicar by Thirumeni and Rev. Fr. Bijo Mathews has been appointed as assistant vicar as well. For more details please visit our
website at www.stgeorgecharlotte.com; the site is in its
inception, but we should have lots of information soon, please visit often.
