Creative Living- Part 1

Rev. Fr. Shyjan Kuriakose

Living is a process most essential for any organisms which is born, and it is an art when it is done by human beings. Hence, we may say that anyone who is living in a good and creative way, is an artist.

Each child is born into this world with an unlimited chances of abilities. Even though, many cannot lead a successful life; not only that, many are failed in it.

Have you noticed the ways in which the students are preparing for an examination? They spend more time on difficult subjects. You might have also noticed the preparations done by the organizers and players of a foot-ball or cricket match. Did you ever think about why they prepare this much? Why do they get ready this much? To win, Right? Yes, it is for winning only!! If this is so, how much preparations do we have to do to make our life successful?

People define life in different ways. Why do you live? Have you ever thought of this? Some will say we are born; that is why we are living! Others try to make their life exotic, and yet others say, it is enough, we want to die now! It seems to us that they are born to die!

There are five major stages in the life of a human being: 1. Infancy, 2. Childhood, 3. Teenage, 4. Youth, and 5. Old age.

Each of these stages are important, but the first three stages are very important. We can generally mention these three stages together as "Children".

The great Malayalam poet 'Akkitham' wrote the beautiful poem about the children like this: "There is nothing adorable in this world, which is equivalent to or better than the innocent mind of a smiling child".

I am sure that the beauty of the poem is lost in the translation. In Malayalam it is: "Konchi punchiri thookeedum kidaavinnezhum pinchaatmavinu thulyamilli-layithil poojarhamaa-yonnume".

There is one more famous poem; which also you might have heard: "Pettammamaar picha nadathidunna Kattakkidaavin pada pankajangal Chettangu-mingum pathiyunna dikkil Muttathani-poovidal venda vere".

The children, in a very precise analysis, are the reserve fund of 'The Nation', 'The Church' and 'The Family'. So it is very necessary that they should be brought up creatively. In childhood, it is their parents who help them to grow in a creative manner.
